Are you a creative type? Do you have a cause you are passionate about?
Do you express your frustrations and feelings about the world through art?
Then you, my friend, are an artivist.
The term itself is relatively new, but using your creativity to raise awareness about a cause you care about is a tale as old as time.
My project is about elevating those artworks to raise awareness and encourage people to get involved. I have created an art-style book displaying artivism pieces, interviews with people who create these works professionally, and documentation of art displayed during protests to show their stance.
Students have sent in their artworks displaying issues that trouble them. They have described what these pieces mean to them and provided resources to contribute to if their piece speaks to you. And this is just the beginning.
Art is a very powerful medium for social change, and we must continue to use our gifts to better our world.
